Our Story

We didn't build this to replace podcasters.

We built it to give you back the time you'd rather spend doing what you love — making great podcasts.

Showrunner handles the production work outside of recording and audio — the research, the scripts, the outreach, the metadata. So you can stay creative.

Why we built this

Producers are burnt out

Podcast producers do everything — research, booking, scripting, editing metadata, writing outreach, managing show notes — and most of it happens before anyone hits record. It's a lot of work for roles that are chronically overworked and underpaid. We wanted to change that.

AI that assists, not replaces

Every single output in Showrunner is intentionally editable. We didn't build this to have AI do the work for you. We built it to give you a head start so you can spend your energy on the creative decisions that actually matter. Your voice. Your show.

Born from the grind

This wasn't an idea we had in a boardroom. We've been producing podcasts for over 10 years — first with Sickboy, then with dozens of shows through Snack Labs. We lived the production grind. Showrunner is the tool we always wished someone would build.

How we got here

It started with Sickboy — a podcast about what it's like to be sick, hosted by three friends from Halifax. That show turned into 940+ episodes, 10 million downloads, and a community across 125 countries. Along the way, we built Snack Labs, a production company that's helped dozens of organizations and creators tell their stories through podcasting.

After a decade of producing shows, we knew exactly how much time gets eaten by everything that isn't recording. Brian started studying artificial intelligence and saw a real opportunity — not to replace the creative work, but to take the production grind off creators' plates. That's how Showrunner was born.

Audio deserves better

Remember the magic of audio

Something happened when transcript-based editing took off. Tools like Descript changed the game — but they also shifted how creators think about their shows. Suddenly podcasting became about the text. Edit the words, cut the filler, ship it.

But podcasting is an audio medium. The power of it lives in the voice, the pause, the sound design, the way a story unfolds in someone's ears. That craft matters. And it's getting lost in the rush to produce more, faster.

That's the real reason we built Showrunner. Not to add more AI to the creative process — but to clear the path so creators can invest their time back into the parts that actually make a podcast worth listening to. The storytelling. The sonic experience. The moments that only happen when you have the space to be intentional about your craft.

We want to help creators be more creative — not more productive.
