Privacy Policy

Showrunner is operated by FRND Technologies Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

We wrote this in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@getshowrunner.com and we will clarify.

1. What We Collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo through our authentication provider. If you sign in with Google or another OAuth provider, we receive the profile information you authorize.

Content you create

Everything you build in Showrunner — shows, episodes, research results, scripts, guest profiles, outreach drafts — is stored in our database and associated with your account. This is your content. We need it to provide the service.

Usage data

We collect anonymized analytics to understand how people use the product so we can improve it. This includes page views, feature usage, session duration, and general interaction patterns.

AI processing data

When you run AI tasks (research, script generation, metadata optimization), the prompts and context you provide are sent to third-party AI providers. We send only the data necessary to fulfill your request. We do not send your full account profile or unrelated content to AI providers.

Payment information

Billing is managed through a PCI-compliant payment processor. We never see, store, or have access to your full credit card number.

Cookies and tracking

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We also use tracking pixels on our marketing pages to measure advertising effectiveness, and analytics cookies to understand anonymous usage patterns. You can opt out of non-essential tracking through your browser settings.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide the service — Your content and account data power the core product. Research, scripts, and metadata are generated based on the information you provide.
• To improve the product — Anonymized usage analytics help us understand which features work, which need improvement, and where users get stuck.
• To communicate with you — Transactional emails for account-related notifications. We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in.
• To process payments — Subscription management and billing through our payment processor.
• To measure advertising — Tracking pixels on marketing pages help us understand which ads bring people to Showrunner. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally within our systems.
• To maintain security — Request logging, rate limiting, and abuse detection to keep the platform safe for everyone.

3. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party providers to operate Showrunner. These fall into the following categories:

• Authentication and identity — Secure sign-in, session management, and account security
• Database and infrastructure — Data storage, hosting, and content delivery
• AI providers — Third-party language models that power research, script generation, and other AI features
• Payment processing — PCI-compliant billing and subscription management
• Analytics and monitoring — Product analytics, performance monitoring, and error tracking
• Email delivery — Transactional email for account notifications
• Advertising — Measurement pixels on marketing pages to evaluate ad effectiveness

Each provider has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We select providers that maintain industry-standard security practices and do not sell your data to any of them or to anyone else.

4. AI Processing and Your Data

This is important, so we want to be specific.

When you use Showrunner’s AI features, we send the minimum context necessary to generate useful output — things like your show description, episode topic, and selected research parameters. These requests are routed to third-party AI providers to generate results.

We do not use your content to train AI models. The AI providers we use have API terms that prohibit using API inputs for model training. Your creative work stays yours.

AI-generated outputs (research, scripts, metadata) are stored in your account and treated as your content under our Terms of Service.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and content within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it (e.g., billing records for tax purposes).

Anonymized analytics data that cannot be tied back to you may be retained indefinitely to help us understand long-term product trends.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights regarding your personal data:

For everyone

• Access — You can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Correction — You can update your account information at any time through your settings.
• Deletion — You can delete your account and all associated data.
• Export — You can request an export of your content in a standard format.

If you are in the EU/EEA (GDPR)

You have additional rights including the right to restrict processing, object to processing, and data portability. Our legal basis for processing your data is (a) performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for), (b) legitimate interest (improving the product and preventing abuse), and (c) consent (for optional analytics and advertising cookies).

If you are in California (CCPA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

If you are in Canada (PIPEDA)

As a Canadian company, we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. You have the right to access your personal information, challenge its accuracy, and withdraw consent for its collection and use.

7. Data Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Our database uses row-level security policies so users can only access their own data. We enforce input validation, rate limiting, and sanitization across all API endpoints. Our authentication provider supports multi-factor authentication.

No system is 100% secure. If we ever discover a breach that affects your data, we will notify you promptly and take immediate steps to mitigate it.

8. Children’s Privacy

Showrunner is not intended for anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.

9. International Data Transfers

FRND Technologies Inc. is based in Canada. Our infrastructure providers may process data in the United States and other jurisdictions. Where data is transferred outside your jurisdiction, we rely on the data protection frameworks and contractual safeguards provided by our infrastructure partners.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice in the application. Your continued use of Showrunner after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
